Rethinking Innovation: Why Big Impact Doesn’t Always Need Big Complexity

Ankit Tomar, May 28, 2025May 25, 2025

When most people hear the word innovation, their mind often jumps to flying cars, rocket science, or some mind-bending AI breakthrough. But here’s the truth:
Innovation isn’t always about doing something incredible.
Sometimes, it’s about doing something simple—but with deep impact.

The Bottom-Up Approach: Everyday Innovation That Works

Innovation doesn’t have to start from the top of a tech pyramid.
In fact, real impact often begins at the bottom, by observing real problems, imagining smarter ways to solve them, and iterating quickly.

Let’s take an example:
Imagine handing your child a car key that’s digitally restricted to a maximum speed limit and geolocation range. It’s not flashy, but it’s smart, responsible innovation—solving a real problem of safety, without reinventing the vehicle.

Digital Resorts: Small Enhancements, Huge Improvements

Why shouldn’t a resort work like a smart home?

What if:

  • Entry gates were automated using facial recognition or QR check-ins
  • Guests accessed services like calling room service, booking spa slots, or sharing feedback directly through a mobile app
  • Payments within the resort happened via a preloaded digital wallet, removing card dependency
  • Security teams had access to real-time movement dashboards for visitor safety

A setup like this wouldn’t just feel modern—it would elevate the entire guest experience, with IoT, AI, and mobile-first thinking baked in.

Pocket Showroom: Car Shopping Reinvented

Imagine this:

You hand a client a tablet.
They open an app and are instantly inside a virtual reality car showroom.
They open the doors, change the color, switch interiors—without stepping into a dealership.

That’s not a vision of tomorrow. That can be built today.
A digital-first approach can reduce dealership costs, reach remote clients, and dramatically enhance engagement.

Visa-Connected Cars: Life On the Go, Seamlessly Connected

What if your car wasn’t just a vehicle—but a lifestyle ecosystem?

A Visa-connected car could:

  • Pay at fuel stations
  • Order food while driving
  • Alert your garage when a service is due
  • Sync with your smart home and prep your room as you approach home

This idea turns mobility into a seamless, integrated digital journey—and brands like Visa and automakers are already heading in that direction.

India’s Potential: IoT for Social Good

What about using technology to solve real public problems?

Here are just a few ideas:

  • IoT sensors for water quality monitoring: Collect real-time data, publish it, and let authorities take action.
  • E-nose sensors in railway and hotel washrooms: Get alerts when cleaning is needed—no more guesswork, just data.
  • A plug-and-play IoT demo lab: Let organizations see sensor-data systems in action with security and web-ready interfaces.

Sometimes, we don’t need futuristic AI—we need reliable, affordable, scalable tech to solve everyday challenges.

The Future of Testing: Smart Automation with Less Effort

Can testing become smarter during development?

Picture this:

  • A developer writes code, runs a sanity test tool that scans for key issues—instantly.
  • Text-to-code generation in Java or .NET: Write “Login page should accept email and password” → get boilerplate code.
  • Code-to-text explanation tools for easier debugging and onboarding junior devs.

This isn’t just automation—it’s augmentation. It shifts testing left and makes quality a natural part of building.

Innovation = Creativity + Delivery

Too often, we get stuck in ideation mode. But ideas mean nothing without execution.
True innovation happens when creativity meets delivery.

Whether you’re working on an IoT demo lab, a hospitality app, or a connected car system—the question isn’t “Can we build it?”
It’s: Can we build it well and ship it fast enough to make an impact?

Build a Culture of Innovation — Not Just Projects

If you’re serious about innovation, you can’t treat it as a department.
It must become a culture, a mindset, a team sport.

That’s why I believe organizations should:

  • Set up cross-functional innovation teams across Product, Strategy, Business, and Technology
  • Assign an innovation lead to monitor global trends and map them to client needs
  • Organize client workshops to identify pain points and co-develop proofs of concept
  • Use IoT labs, demo kits, banners, and even short videos to inspire teams and clients

“People don’t want to be sold—they want to be inspired.”

Final Thought: There Should Be a Better Way

Innovation starts with a simple question:

“Is there a better way to do this?”

The next time you see something broken, inefficient, or old-school, don’t ignore it. Challenge it. Solve it. Simplify it.
That’s where innovation begins.

Let’s build things that matter.
Not just incredible. But impactful.

From Competition to Collaboration: A Shift That Changed How I Work

May 27, 2025May 25, 2025

A few years ago, I walked into a new project feeling confident—maybe a little too confident.  I had done my homework. I knew the tech stack. I had solutions in mind even before the kickoff meeting began. I was eager to take charge, show initiative, and, if I’m honest, impress….
